About the numbers
Fares
Train and bus fares here are worked out from published per kilometre rates and shown as ranges. They are not live prices. Railway fares are telescopic, have rounding rules and minimum fares, and premium trains use dynamic pricing. Private bus fares jump hard on weekends and festivals. Check the actual fare before you travel.
Hotel and food
These are researched average figures for that type of destination, not live prices for any hotel or restaurant. Hotel is the most variable input. The same town has rooms at Rs 800 and Rs 8,000.
Car costs
Petrol, toll and wear estimates assume normal highway driving and the mileage you enter. Hill roads, traffic, load and AC all reduce mileage. Tolls are charged at each plaza, not per kilometre, so our figure is an approximation. Insurance and road tax are deliberately excluded.
Travel times
Times use rough average speeds and do not include connections, waiting, traffic or delays. They are for comparing modes, not for planning a connection.
Driver tiredness
No calculator can price this, and on long or hill routes it matters more than money. Please plan stops. A cost comparison should never be the reason a tired person keeps driving.
No commercial tie-ups
No affiliate links, no commissions, no paid placements. No operator, hotel or aggregator pays to appear anywhere on this site.
Your data
What you type into the calculators, including names in the expense splitter, is not stored on our server. It stays in the page and in the link. Remember that a link you share contains whatever you typed.
Mistakes
We correct errors when reported. If a figure looks wrong, please tell us. All our constants are on the methodology page.
