Toll is a real part of any road trip and almost nobody budgets for it. This estimates it by distance and vehicle type, and handles the return journey discount that saves money if you know about it.

What this assumes
- Toll is charged at each plaza, not per kilometre. This is a distance based estimate for budgeting.
- Not every kilometre of a route is tolled highway. State highways and city roads are usually free.
- The same day return discount is available at most plazas but you must show the outbound receipt.
- Monthly passes exist for regular users and cost far less than repeated single trips.
- FASTag is effectively compulsory. Cash payment is charged double at most plazas.
Common questions
How much toll for a 500 km trip?
For a car, roughly Rs 750 to Rs 1,250, depending on how much of the route is tolled expressway. New access controlled expressways are at the top of that range.
Is the return toll double?
Usually not. Most plazas charge about 1.5 times for a return within 24 hours. You need the receipt from the first crossing, so do not throw it away.
Why do trucks pay so much more?
Toll rates go by how much a vehicle wears the road, and that rises sharply with load. A multi axle truck pays over five times what a car pays for the same stretch.
Do I need FASTag?
Yes, practically speaking. Paying cash means double the toll at most plazas, so the tag pays for itself on the first trip.
